2022 Year-end Mail art project 2

For my second mail art edition, I sent out forty spatial collages via regular mail to the Netherlands, Germany, France, and the United States. Each piece in this series has dimensions of 14 x 20 x 1 cm. The collages came together by shaking random art illustrations and gradually building them into what one might call ‘unstructured urbanity.’
Some elements remain highly recognizable, while others do not. All 40 collages are distinct from one another, but certain elements occasionally reappear in different ways. My goal was to blend recognizable images into an abstract environment, akin to our urban surroundings where every- thing is familiar yet escapes into chaos at the same time. I wanted to evoke a sense of mystery and elusiveness.
The mail art project allows me to establish connections. It’s always exciting to see how art can resonate and provide meaning to different people, regardless of the distance between us.
