Vertical Ambition #35
'Vertical Ambition #35', 2022.
My series of reliefs (45 pieces) titled ‘Vertical
Ambition,’ created between 2021 and 2022, explores the
concept of verticality, this is number 35 It revolves
around the desire for higher, spiritual experiences and
the realization of our insignificance within a powerful
and larger whole. I wanted to create an abrasive, denying
reality that points to the complex mix of comfort and
discomfort that comes with wandering aimlessly through
cities. The structures of the city, including
architecture, infrastructure and the nature that surrounds
and permeates the city, guide us in our observation,
movement and experience. At the same time, these works
evoke a feeling of discomfort and make us constantly
wonder: what is this city doing to me? What is the
significance of this place?
