Collage 8, 2022
'Collage 8', 2022.
Collage number 8" from 2022 marks an important moment in
my exploration of urban themes in visual art over recent
years. In this work, I sought images of cities in various
states, such as destruction, reconstruction, aesthetic
beauty, and the dynamics of urbanism. The images I
encountered in a range of books were carefully selected
and used in my spatial collages. These collages serve as a
reflection on the complexity and diversity of the urban
environment.
The desire to create digital versions alongside these
physical, spatial compositions stemmed from my interest in
giving the work a different form of presence. By
transitioning to a digital, one-dimensional version of the
piece, the perspective shifted, and the collage gained a
completely new dimension. Instead of the physical
interaction of layering and depth found in 3D, the digital
collage offers a flatness that brings other aspects of the
image to the forefront, such as contrast and texture. The
series of digital collages, of which "Collage number 8" is
a part, is printed in a limited edition of five pieces on
large paper, measuring 100 x 70 cm. This format emphasizes
the monumentality and richness of detail within the
compositions. The intensive construction and presentation
enhance the thematic layers of the works, revealing urban
motifs in a different way in the digital format than they
would in my spatial collages. Click for detail
